Cook and Light Clean Technology

Converts waste heat energy during cooking into electricity.

2020/2021 cohort | Energy & Manufacturing
The 7th UN SDG aims to wipe out energy poverty by 2030. Despite significant advances in electrification, enhanced by solar home systems, universal access to electricity is far from being achieved. 1 billion households around the world still live without electricity. Kenya is home to approximately 8 million households without access to electricity, mostly from remote and sparsely populated regions. We have developed Cook and Light, a device that converts waste heat energy produced during cooking process into electricity. The electric energy produced is either used directly or stored in the energy storage devices and used later as household electricity.
